Sports Day Training! (Nagano Aurora/Shooting Star June 8th-11th)

Hello Aurora and Shooting Star families!

Welcome to our newly redesigned class blog!

From this week onward, instead of talking about every single activity we did during the week, we will focus on one important activity done each week.

We hope this is a positive change, and thank you in advance for your patience as we get used to this new style of blog.

Our main activity this week was a special gym lesson. For this special lesson, we rode our school bus to a local gymnasium. We practised getting on and off the bus safely, as well as sitting and acting responsibly while on the bus. Everyone did a wonderful job on the bus!

Once we arrived at the gym, we changed into our indoor shoes (which we had brought from school), and got ready to move around. Our first activity was designed to warm up our bodies, and consisted of jogging around the space, and stretching our upper and lower bodies.

After we were warmed up, we started our activities. Some of these activities we will perform during our Sports Day, and as a result, we wanted to try our best.

Our first activity was a class-based race, incorporating a large yoga ball. We took turns rolling the large ball across the hall, moving our hands and legs as fast as we could. Once we reached a determined location, we turned around and raced back to our team. After everyone had had a turn, we checked how fast we accomplished our task. Hopefully we will become quicker each week that we practise!

After a quick drink break, we moved on to our next activity. We practised having a relay race between two teams, with each team being comprised of Aurora as well as Shooting Star students. The first runner ran with a baton to a point in the hall, and then turned around and ran back towards their team. They then handed the baton to the next person in line, and sat down. The second runner repeated the above steps, and so on and so forth. The team that had all of its members sitting down first was declared the winner. We still have to work on handing off the baton, that was difficult for some of the students!

Our final activity was a set of dances. We have been dancing to some songs while in class, and enjoy moving our bodies to the music. The first song we danced to was the popular song “Baby Shark”. We made shark gestures, and ran around the hall during the chase portion of the song. Everyone enjoyed being chased by their teacher, the shark. Our second song was called “Let’s Star Jump”. A star jump, or jumping jack, is a common exercise that uses the arms as well as the legs. Our song has us perform many star jumps, as well as dancing. This song is very tiring to the students, so we will have to work on improving our stamina!

Finally we boarded the bus back to school, with everyone being very tired, but having had a great time!

Overall, everyone did a great job getting ready for our Sports Day. We still have to practise more, but hopefully everyone will be ready by the big day.

Thank you for reading up to this point! See you again next time!
