Nagano SHOOTING STAR SEPTEMBER 15 Mama Pistil needs Papa Pollen…and BEES!

SHOOTING STAR has learned that plants need SUN, AIR, WATER, GOOD SOIL and SPACE to grow! This week we talked a lot about how plants usually need FLOWERS to make SEEDS, so they have some nice, sweet juice called NECTAR to attract the butterflies and BEES that help to move “Papa Pollen” to the sticky top of “Mama Pistil” so seeds can form to make new baby plants!

We made a little drama of buzzy bees coming to drink up the nectar and move the pollen to the pistil. We looked at a photo of a nice big lily, and modeled half a flower in clay to show the PETALS (to CALL the bees) the anthers (with “Papa Pollen” on the ends) and the pistil in the middle to catch the pollen as the bees come to drink nectar.

Then the paper craft we made for 9/18 “Grandparents’ Day” included some basic paper-weaving, and MORE flowers!

A PISTIL, some POLLEN and PETALS made of clay!

PAPER flowers in a paper basket that we wove…Happy Grandparents’ Day!

“Both hands UP, please!” A Morning Circle listening game.

Finally getting a little cooler, so we play outside more now.
