One More Month in 2019!

Hello Aurora families!

We have had another fun week at ISN!

We started the week with a trip to the park! We were very lucky, as it looked like it would rain, but it turned out to just be very cloudy instead! After walking to the park, we had the chance to play on the playground, swing on the swings, or chase our teachers. Another exciting activity at the park was picking up pinecones. Many of the trees had dropped their leaves, as well as their pinecones, so students enjoyed picking up and playing with many pinecones. Many of the older students also buddied up with a younger student, and acted as good role models. I am very proud of you Aurora!

After that we had a great gym lesson. It was very sunny, so we were able to have gym class outside. We started off by jogging around our playground, warming up our muscles. After that we continued on with our theme of catching and throwing balls. We started off by assigning numbers to each student. After that, our teacher threw the ball onto the roof of our school, where it would roll off, and we tried to catch the ball. Next we played a game we played last week, and when our teacher called our number, we ran to try and catch the ball before it hit the ground. Finally, we played a game called “Steal the Bacon”, where we split into two teams of four. When our teacher called a number, the two students with that number from each team ran and tried to bring the ball back to their side. If they did that successfully, their team was awarded a point. If they were tagged before they could do this, the other team got a point. Everyone had a great time, and worked very hard!

Next up we had another fun swimming lesson. After getting off the bus and getting changed into our swimsuits, we started off by stretching and showering before entering the pool. Once in the pool, we warmed up by kicking our legs, trying to make as small as a splash as we could. Next we walked across the submerged platform, jumped towards our teacher and jumped along the edge of the pool. After that we crossed the pool with the help of our teacher, making sure to stick our faces in the water. Then we put a weighted ring at the bottom of the pool, and with the help of our goggles, dove down to grab it. Finally, we grabbed some floating plastic balls that our teacher had spread around the pool, and tried to put them into a bucket our teacher was holding, while our teacher was moving. It was a cold day, but the pool was nice and warm!

Finally we had another great music lesson. This week, we focused on preparing as much as we can for our Christmas Show. We will be singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” as one of our songs, so we worked on that during our lesson. Half of the class will be playing the castanet, and half will be playing our jingly bells. So, we split the class into two teams, and practiced our song. We had different melodies for the different instruments. The castanet team practised doing a O-O-X rhythm, while the jingly bell team practised a X-O-O rhythm. This was the first time we have seen these two rhythms together, so while it was a challenging lesson, everyone did a great job, and made their teachers very happy!

Thank you all again very much, and see you again next time!
