Aurora Nagano: Happy New Year! New Unit! New UOI!

Happy New Year everyone! As the new year begins, we introduced the last UOI of Aurora class, Transportation. To begin, we first announced the new groups and members to them, we also encouraged them to discuss and make decisions within the peers. Certainly, they also chose their group name based on transportations: Helicopter, Truck, Bus, Hot air balloon, and airplane. We learned about the land transportations this week. What special about the lesson is that we asked our kids to think about the words (Adjectives) to describe the vehicles showed. For instance, they suggested that cool, four-wheeled, fast, comfortable, reliable, convenient are the words to describe a race car. By doing this, we learned more about the vocabularies about transportation, this will certainly help us in our language skills.

The workstations are back! We had some new and unique workstation activities that will help improve the math, and fine motor skills of our kids. The skills we did were cutting skill, zipping, shapes identification and counting skill.

The theme of craft lesson this week was Rabbit Daruma! We designed the daruma with our favorite colors of thin papers by using the glue, they first have to tear the paper and paste on the rabbit daruma. Let’s begin the new year with these cute and amazing-designed Rabbit!

Our first music class of the year was fun! We learned about the sounds of hammer, handsaw, and heavy stuff, for each sound played by the piano, we also reacted according to it. Then, we were gathered in groups, react and response to a ball, we clap for each time the ball touches the floor.

The swimming lesson for this week really challenged our kids! All the activities were levelled up. From using just a small part of the pool last year, now we used the whole pool this year. We did some “marathon” in the pool and we saw that Aurora kids really enjoyed them.

The new monthly song of January is “Take me home, Country Roads” by John Denver
