Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s Aurora blog. It has been a big week for our Aurora students. We started our first UOI lessons, made some auroras, started our phonics and writing practice, and had a lot of fun playing together!
みなさん、こんにちは！今週のAuroraブログへようこそ。今週のAuroraの子どもたちにとって、初めてする事がたくさんの一週間でした。
初めてのUOIレッスン、「オーロラ」作り、そしてフォニックスとライティングの練習、そして、もちろんみんな大好きな外遊びでは、身体をたくさん動かして遊びました。
Starting our very first UOI (Unit of inquiry)!
This week we started our first UOI (Unit of inquiry) lessons. For approximately 3 months we will be exploring the central idea of our first UOI, “We can be the same and different”. Each UOI has 3 distinct LOI (Lines of inquiry). For this unit, we have the following LOI:
今週から私たちは最初のUOIレッスンを開始しました。初めての教科の枠をこえたテーマは、”Who we are.”です。中心的アイディアは、“We can be the same and different.”で、探求の流れ１は、Our bodies are different from others.になります。各ユニットには、３つの探求の流れがあり、今回のユニットでは、次のようなものになります。
- Our bodies are different from others
- Things I like are different from our friends
- It’s good to be different
For the first lesson, we asked the students to color a face with the same colors as themselves. They looked at their face in a mirror the teacher was holding before starting. We also discussed what kind of color their hair, eyes, skin, cheeks and lips were first. Although they could answer the questions, they were a bit too excited when coloring, so we got some interesting results!
最初のレッスンでは、どのくらいの知識が探求前に子どもたちにあるのかを知る為に、自分と同じ色で色を塗ってみようと活動しました。始める前に、先生が持っていた鏡で、自分の 髪、目、肌、頬、唇がどんな色をしているかなと、 自分の顔をよく見ながら話し合ってみました。そして、作業を始めてみると…とても興味深い仕上がりになりました☺
さて、ここからがいよいよ探求の始まりです！！
For our next lesson, we discussed the meaning of the words “Same” and “different”. It’s important for our young learners to get a good grasp of this before we can start talking about the many similarities and differences between ourselves and others.
To reinforce this, we did an activity using a “Different” and “Same” board. The kids got a couple of cards with an image of either two matching objects or two different objects. Then, they attached the card to the correct board. They also had to explain to the teacher if the card was “same” or “different”.
探求の流れ1「Our bodies are different form others.」の理解を深め、探求をするために次のレッスンでは、「同じ」と「違い」の言葉の意味を学びました。
「Same」と「Different」のボードを使用し、子どもたちは、同じ絵を載せたカードと違う絵を載せたカードを分類する活動をしました。
Making our own Aurora’s
What is an aurora? We wanted our curious students to learn more about the name of our class, so we watched a video about Auroras and made our own!
All the kids sat down, as we watched two short videos explaining and showing many beautiful examples of auroras. The teacher also helped explain while the video was playing, and asked them what colors they could see. They excitedly shouted out the colors they got see. “It’s green!”, “Blue Aurora!” and so on.
オーロラとは？好奇心旺盛な子どもたちにクラスの名前をもっと知ってもらうため、オーロラについてのビデオを見て、自分たちでオーロラのクラフトを作成しました。
美しいオーロラの映像やどうしてオーロラって現れるんだろうという、オーロラについての短編の映像をみんなで見ました。子どもたちはとても興味深そうに夢中で見ていました。Mr.Kennthが映像の説明をしたり、オーロラって何色が見える？との質問に、「Green！」「Blue Aurora！」など興奮して答えている子どもたちでした。
After the video, the teacher showed them how to make their own unique Aurora.
We used a black sheet and some colorful paint. We didn’t use a brush this time, but instead a sponge to paint! They were all very proud of their creations. They are now on display outside our classroom for the whole school to see! Good job everyone!
上映会の後、子どもたちが自分で表現したオーロラの色すべてを使って、黒い用紙に絵の具をたらし、スポンジを使ってオーロラを表現してみました。色が合わさって素敵なオーロラになりましたね！教室の外に展示してありますので、ぜひご覧ください。そして、この出来上がったクラフトはその後、あるものに変身します。お楽しみに♪
Phonics and writing
Every week, we will be focusing on a single letter from the alphabet.
This week we, naturally, started with the letter “A”.
We talked about the letter sound, followed by multiple examples of the words starting with “A”. We also colored a page with different pictures of things that being with the letter.
毎週、アルファベットの大文字から１文字に取り組みます。最初は、「A」からの始まりです。文字の音について学び、続いて「A」から始まる単語を紹介し、みんなでMr.Kennethの後に続いてリピート！学んだ単語の色塗りをしながら発声しました。
Next up, it was time for our writing practice.
First, we talked about the stroke order, and drew in the air using our fingers.
In Rainbow, we have been crayons, but now it’s time for pencils.
The teacher first demonstrated how to hold the pencil correctly. As we handed out the pencils to the students, we helped them hold it correctly. The pencils we use are triangle shaped, so that it’s easier for the kids to hold. I was happy to see trying their best to hold it correctly!
They all worked diligently tracing “A” many times in their worksheets. Excellent tracing Aurora!
次は、ライティングの練習です。
先ずは、書き順を紹介し、指を使って空中に描きました。レインボークラスでは、クレヨンでしたが、今は鉛筆の時間です。
Mr.Keneethが、最初に鉛筆を正しく持つお手本をみせました。子どもたちが使用する鉛筆は三角形のもので、子どもたちが持ちやすいものになっています。みんな一生懸命に先生のお手本を見て、苦戦しながらも正しく持とうとする姿に感心しました。まだまだ始まったばかり、ゆっくり練習をしていきましょう。
みんな最初の「A」の文字をワークシートに何度も何度も熱心になぞりを取り組めました。
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy
Of course, we also have plenty of time for fun and games too!
Whenever we have the chance, we like to play outside in the nice weather.
And we will try to go to the park multiple times a week, so that they can use some of their endless amount of energy!
もちろん、みんな大好きな外遊びの時間もたくさんあります。天気のいい日には、外で遊ぶのが大好きなAuroraのみんな。
そして、お友達同士ペアになり、手をつないで公園まで歩きます。まっすぐ前を見て、列を乱さないように、横断歩道を渡るときは手を挙げて、みんなで公園を目指します。公園では、毎回キラキラしたみんなのエネルギーを感じます！
