みなさん、こんにちは。
It has been another fun week here in Aurora! We will make a slight change in the time we publish the blog going forward. Instead of Thursdays, we will start publishing the blogs on Fridays. This is so we can include the UOI or activity we do on Friday in the same week.
ここオーロラでは、また楽しい一週間をみんなで過ごしました。
最初に一つ、皆さまにお知らせです。今後のブログ公開曜日を若干変更させて頂きたいと思います。今までは、木曜日にブログを公開してきましたが、今週より金曜日にブログを公開していく予定です。理由といたしましては、同じ週の金曜日に行っているUOIまたは、アクティビティを含めたブログを公開するためです。ご理解の程よろしくお願い致します。
UOI (We can be the same and different)
We finished up our third and final line of inquiry (It’s OK to be different) this week with a fun dress-up activity, and one final activity to show the students that looking different on the outside doesn’t mean we are different on the inside.
今週私たちは、三番目のLOI（他の人と違っていてもいいんだよ）の探求を二つの活動をして終えました。一つ目は、楽しいドレスアップアクティビティ、そして、二つ目は、外見が違って見えても、内面は一緒なんだよということのアクティビティを行いました。
Making Elmer the elephant.
At the end of last week, we made our very own big original Elmer the elephant!
First, we gave all the students one piece each of Elmer. One the back of their piece of paper, they could see that each piece had a different number. We hung a big outline of Elmer up on the wall. The outline looked like a big puzzle board, complete with outlines for the different numbered pieces.
先週の終わりにオーロラのみんなで大きな「ゾウのエルマー」を作成しました。まず最初に、大きなエルマーを１３人分に分けたピースをそれぞれみんなに配りました。配られたエルマーのピースにの裏には、番号が書いてあります。
そして、クラスの壁には、大きなエルマーのアウトラインが描かれた大きな用紙が貼られています。その大きなエルマーのアウトラインはパズルボードのようにも見え、様々な番号のピースのアウトラインが描かれています。
Each student was tasked with coloring their piece with the color of their choice. After furiously coloring their big piece of Elmer, they had to stick to the big outline on the wall. The teacher called the number of the next piece that we needed. The students checked their number, and if they had the correct number they could come up and stick it the outline. We have been working on our number recognition, so they had fun finding out who had the next number!
それぞれみんな、配られたピースに自分の好きな色を塗っていきます。そして、大きなピースに一生懸命に色を塗った後、それぞれのピースを壁に貼ってあるエルマーに貼り付けていきます。先生は、１番から番号を呼んでいきます。すると、子どもたちは、自分の持っているピースの裏に書かれている番号を見て、呼ばれた番号と同じであれば、前に出て貼り付けていきます。オーロラクラスでは、数を学んでいるので、次に何の番号がきて、誰がその番号を持っているのかとみんなわくわくしながら、自分の順番を待っていました。
After finishing our colorful elephant, we had a discussion about how all our different colors, when put together, created one beautiful elephant. We all agreed that it’s much more fun that we had different colors than if everyone chose the same color. We are all unique, and we should celebrate and appreciate our differences!
カラフルな素敵なオーロラのエルマーを完成させた後、様々な色を組み合わせて一つの美しい象を作成した気持ちをみんなで共有しました。
みんなが同じ色を選んだ場合よりも、色が違うほうがずっと楽しいということでみんなが同意しました。私たちは、みんなユニークであり、私たちの違いを祝い、感謝する必要があると思います☺！
Dressing up!
Another way we can be different is the way we dress. We want our students to know that just because someone choose to dress differently than themselves, doesn’t mean that they are strange or bad.
私たちが人とは違う自分の個性を出すことが出来るもう一つの方法は、服装です。誰かが自分とは違う服装を選んだからと言って、彼らが奇妙で悪いという意味ではないことを子どもたちに知ってもらいたいと思いました。
We had a fun activity to reinforce this lesson. All the students got print with a picture of a dress-up doll with their own face on it. We spread out a lot of different cut-out paper clothes on a table. The kids came up and chose the clothes they liked. They went back to their table and glued the clothes on their print.
３番目のLOIのレッスンを探求するための活動の一つとして、この楽しい活動を行いました。子どもたち全員に、自分の顔の写真がついたドレスアップ人形のイラストが配られました。先生は切り抜いた様々な紙の洋服をテーブルの上にたくさん広げました。４、５人ずつそのテーブルに来て、好きな洋服を選びました。そして、選んだ紙の洋服を持って自分に席に戻り、自分のドレスアップ人形の用紙に選んだ洋服を糊で貼っていきました。
After everyone finished their wonderful, and quite different, dress-ups, they presented it in front of the class. They came up in pairs in front of the class. We asked them to pick out something they liked about their partners clothes, and why they like it. This was a good way to show that even though they chose different clothes, they could still find something they liked about their friend’s selection.
みんなが素敵でそして、まったく違うドレスアップを終えた後、二人ペアになりクラスの前で発表をしました。そして、お互いのドレスアップを見ながら、相手のお友達のドレスアップのどんなところが好きなのか、また、どうしてそれがいいなと思ったのかなどを伝えあいました。他のお友達が自分とは違う洋服を選んだとしても、相手の良いところを見つけることができるという、リスペクトすることを学ぶ活動の一つでした。
Different, yet same.
For our final activity this UOI, we compared two eggs. We had one white and one brown egg in a bowl filled with water. We asked the kids if they were the same or different. They were allowed to observe the eggs by looking and touching. What was the same and what was different?
We could all agree that they looked different.
このユニット最後のアクティビティでは、２つの卵を比較しました。水を入れたボウルに白い卵と茶色の卵を一つずつ入れました。子どもたちにこの二つの卵は同じかまたは、違うかと尋ねました。子どもたちは、卵をよく見たり、触れたりして卵を観察しました。何が同じで、何が違っているのでしょうか？
そして、みんなからの答えは、外側から見たこの二つの卵は違ってみえるということでした。
We then opened the eggs to show that they were both the same on the inside!
Just like us, they looked different on the outside, but were the same on the inside.
We discussed this topic some more together. We can all have the same feelings. We all feel scared, happy, angry, sleepy etc. It’s like the old saying says: “Don’t judge a book by its cover”
次に、この二つの卵を割って、内側がどうなっているかをみんなで観察してみることにしました。そして、私たちと同じように、外側が違って見えても、内側は同じだったのです。私たちはこのトピックについてもう少しお話をしました。私たちみんなどこにいても、誰であっても、みんな同じように痛みや怖さ怒りを感じ、そして幸せや喜びそして、愛を感じます、世界のどこにいても。
英語のことわざでこんな言葉があります。「人を見た目で判断してはいけない」「物事を外見で判断してはいけない」という言葉です。
Father’s Day craft
June 20th is not only officially the first day of summer, but it’s also Father’s Day! Our talented students worked hard to create a nice present for their wonderful daddies. We started by taking everyone’s footprint. We painted their feet with blue paint. They giggled and laughed while saying things like “It’s tickles” or “It’s cold!”.
オーロラクラスでも、父の日のためのカード作りをみんなで楽しみながら行いました。みんな大好きなお父さんへのプレゼント作りに大興奮！やる気満々です🤩最初私たちは、足形を取ることから始めました。先生が一人づつ足の裏を筆で、青く塗っていきます。みんなくすぐったくて足をピクピクさせていました。みんなくすぐったくて、そしてヒンヤリする感触にとても楽しんでいました。
ドキドキしながらの足形押しは、とっても上手にできました☺
This was just the first step in creating a superhero daddy! The next step was drawing their daddies face. The final step was gluing a cape and emblem to complete the superhero! I’m was so happy when I saw everyone’s superhero daddies. It’s truly heartwarming to see everyone’s improvement and growth every day!
さて、ここからがみんなの力を発揮するときです☆彡みんなが上手に押せた足形が、なんとスーパーヒーローパパに変身するのです！！
先ずは、お父さんの似顔絵を描くことに挑戦です。お父さんのお顔を思い浮かべながらみんな夢中で描いていました。そして、マントとエンブレムを糊で貼り付け、完成です‼一生懸命にカード作りに取り組むオーロラのみんなの姿をみて、手先の上達や豊富な想像力にとても感動し、本当に嬉しかったです。日々の子どもたちの成長に心が温まります。
Now that our superhero daddies were complete, we wanted our message to be a little more personal. On the back of the paper, it says “I love you daddy!”. The kids traced the letters we have learned so far, and they did an amazing job! I hope you all enjoy your presents!
スーパーヒーローパパが完成した後は、メッセージを添えることにしました。紙の裏に「大好きだよ！」のメッセージを書くことに挑戦☆彡オーロラになり、１週間に１文字ずつアルファベットをなぞる練習をしています。子どもたちは、今まで学んだアルファベットの文字を書いてメッセージを書きました。ゆっくり丁寧に心を込めて書いている姿に成長を感じられ、とても嬉しかったです。
お家で、プレゼントを楽しんでいただけることを願っています☆彡
Beetlemania!
As you probably all are very aware of, beetlemania has taken over the school! Recently, we had around 50 beetles crawl out from the dirt and up to greet our excited students. And of course, everyone has gone crazy over the beetles! I’m happy that so many of them has found some nice homes, and I hope you and your kids can enjoy taking care of them at your home too!
もちろん、みなさんご存じの事と思いますが★ビートルマニアたちがスクールからカブトムシたちを引き継いでくれました！！なんと５０匹のカブトムシが成虫になり、土の中から出てきてくれ、大興奮のスクールの子どもたに挨拶をしてくれました。みんなカブトムシに夢中です🤩
そして、多くのカブトムシたちが素敵なおうちを見つけられて本当にうれしいです。おうちの方々から教えていただいた、おうちでの子どもたちとカブトムシエピソードに思わず声を出して笑ってしまったり、心温まるかわいらしいエピソードに幸せをもらっています。

Music lesson
We had another fun music lesson this week. We started the lesson by using the metronome. We said the name of the fruits in rhythm to the metronome, gradually increasing the speed. The teacher also introduced some new vegetable flashcards this time!
今週もまた、楽しい音楽レッスンがありました。メトロノームのリズムに合わせて果物の名前を言い、徐々にスピードを上げていきました。今回も先生が新しい野菜のフラッシュカードを紹介してくれました☺
Next, we took a look at some different sea animals. We pretended to be different animals while walking around to the teacher’s music.
次に、様々な海の生き物を紹介してくれました。小さなお魚さんに、大きなお魚さん、タコさんやワカメなど、先生のピアノのリズムに合わせて、ゆっくり泳いだり、早く泳いだり、海の生き物になりっきて楽しく活動できました。
Playtime!
We had a lot of fun playing at the park. We walked to the park with our friends from the Rainbow class. Aurora walked in front and showed them that we are good examples for our lower class. Our young adventurers have been very fascinated by the ants at the park. They always study them very closely!
今週も私たちは、公園で楽しくみんなで遊びました。公園へは、レインボーのお友達たちと一緒に歩いて向かいました。お兄さんお姉さんのオーロラクラスは、良いお手本になるようにレインボーのお友達の先頭を歩きました。この時期、公園の虫たちも活動的になり、オーロラのみんなは公園へ行く度に、虫に興味津々です。特に活発に活動しているアリさんを毎回、じっと見つめ観察しています🤩
