Hello everyone!
I hope everyone enjoyed their Obon holiday, and it was nice to see everyone’s big smile again! The summer program has ended, and we will be getting back to our regular schedule. Because of the covid level increase in Nagano, the swimming lessons has been cancelled until the situation improves.

This week, we introduced our second LOI, “How our actions affect the environment”. In our last LOI, we focused on 4 different habitats and the animals living there. Now, we will shift the focus on to how our actions may help or hurt the habitats and the animals living there.
By the end of this LOI, we hope that the kids can recognize the difference between good and bad actions, and have an idea of the consequences of the bad actions.
今週は、２番目のLOI「私たちの行動が環境に与える影響」を紹介しました。前回のLOIでは、４つの異なる生息地とそこに生息する動物について学びました。LOI2では、私たちの行動がそれぞれの生息地に住む動物をどのように助けたり、傷つけたりするかに焦点を当てていきます。
LOI2の終わりまでに、子どもたちが良い行動と悪い行動の結果を理解できるようになることを願っています。
Prior knowledge assessment
For the first lesson of a new LOI, we like to start with a prior knowledge assessment. This assessment is, as the name suggests, a way to find out how much the students already know or understand of the current topic.
新しいLOIの最初のレッスンでは、事前の知識評価から始めます。この評価では、子どもたちが現在のトピックをすでにどれだけ知っているか、または理解しているかを知る方法です。
We started the lesson by introducing our new LOI. In this unit we use the word “action” a lot, but what does that mean? It’s a very useful word, but it might be a little difficult to understand for our young learners. That’s why we started off by talking about what does the word “action” mean, and what does it mean in the context of our unit.
私たちは、新しいLOIを紹介することからレッスンを開始しました。この単元では、「action」という言葉をよく使いますが、それはどういった意味でしょうか？とても便利な言葉ですが、子どもたちにとっては理解するのが少し難しいかもしれません。そのため、「action」という言葉が何を意味するのか、そしてそれが私たちのユニットの中で何を意味するのかについて話すことから始めました。
For the assessment we had two posters on the wall. One poster was for good actions, and the other was for bad actions. We had a set of different flashcards showing good or bad actions. These included not only actions that impact the environment, but also directly towards animals.
評価のために、壁に2枚のポスターを貼りました。１枚のポスターは良い行動のためのもの、もう１枚は悪い行動のためのポスターです。そして、良い行動悪い行動の絵が描かれたフラッシュカードがあります。この中には、環境に影響を与える行動だけでなく、動物に直接関わる行動のカードも含まれていました。
Each student got a flashcard that they had to present in front of the class. The teacher would ask the student if they thought the action was good or bad and why. For example: A picture showing a child pulling a cat’s tail is bad. Why? Because it’s painful for the cat.
After each card the teacher gave a more detailed explanation and discussed each example with the class.
子どもたちは、クラスの前に来て先生からフラッシュカードを受け取りました。先生は、子どもたちにその行動が良いか悪いか、そしてその理由を尋ねました。
カード：子どもが猫のしっぽを引っ張ている写真。
先生：これはいい行動？
子ども：良くない。
先生：どうして？
子ども：猫ちゃんが、痛がっている。
それぞれのカードの後で、先生は詳しい説明をし、クラスでそれぞれの例について話し合いをしました。
The Messy Magpie
For our second lesson, we read the book “The Messy Magpie”.
It’s a story about how all the littering impacts the environment, and how it would affect the animals living there. The book also gives a good message about the importance of teamwork, and how much one can accomplish when working together!
今週２回目のレッスンでは、 「乱雑なカササギ」 という本を読みました。それは、すべてのごみが環境にどのように影響するか、そしてそれがそこに住む動物にどのように影響するかについての物語です。この本はまた、チームワークの重要性と、一緒に仕事をするときにどれだけ達成できるかについての良いメッセージも教えてくれました☆彡
After reading the book, we looked back at some of the pages and discussed what happened in the story.
この本を読んだ後、みんなでいくつかのページを振り返り、物語の中で何が起こったのかについて話し合いました。
Water play
Even though our summer program has officially ended, the summer weather is staying strong! Luckily, we still have our pool so that we can cool down and have fun together!
お天気に恵まれた日に、久しぶりにみんなでプール遊びをしました☺みんなで一緒に遊ぶプールは楽しいね🤩
よく晴れた真っ青な空を飛ぶ飛行機やヘリコプターに、子どもたちは空を見上げ嬉しそうに指をさし、「Airplane!!✈」と教えてくれました🤩
